In short, while I appreciate Say's wish not to sentimentalize interracial adoption, this book would work better if it targeted older children and employed an older protagonist. I am so glad that Candace has finally gotten to see what real true love is and to have a FINE man like Landon that tops it all. One note that has nothing to do with the storyin the "Special Thanks" section at the beginning, the author mentions that without her editor's intervention, she "would overuse the word 'slightly' to the point of ridiculousness. At the end of each story / poem there are several cryptic questions that leave me floundering to answer. and this will not disappoint any die-hard fan. I found few stories about what happens if we allow a grassroots movement (to make the world a cleaner safer place) to be commandeered by those who seek power and wealth. Interesting, not a bad read. There were several instances where I had to go back and re-read because something didn't make sense or was just left hanging. The accompanying worksheet asks readers to list their favorite roller coaster, how many times they've ridden it, the types and amounts of loops, and the consequences of riding.
